Q: What causes the smell from a urinal?
A: Unpleasant odours that come from a urinal are created by urine residue and mineral deposits that accumulate in the urinal waste pipe. Over time these deposits form what we call uric scale build up. This is a hard build up that restricts the waste pipe and contributes to blockages, creating conditions where unpleasant odours can persist.

Q: What can I treat and prevent this?
A: To prevent this, you can use either our urinal auto cleaner or our Urica urinal screen, as these two cause good bacteria to be deposited into the drain that breaks the uric scale down so that it can be flushed. If your problem is really bad, we would recommend that you give us a call so that we can put you in touch with a service company that can come and get rid of the scale build up for you first, and then you can start with the maintenance so that it does not happen again.

Q: Can I use normal chemicals to clean my urinal when I am using the Urica urinal screen or Auto Cleaner with Bio Purinel?
A: No, you only use a toilet brush and water, as the chemicals will kill the bacteria that you are putting down the drain to break down the uric scale.

Q: Is the urinal trap the only thing causing the smell around the urinal?
A: No, the walls and floors and the grouting in the tiles are also part of the problem. When the urinal is used, urine tends to splash on the floor and wall around it and this is usually not cleaned with the correct product to get the urine out of the grouting. If left over a certain time, the smell is near impossible to get out of the washroom.

Q: Do you have a solution for the splash?
A: Yes, our Urica urinal screen is designed specifically to stop the splash from happening. It also has a bacteria block which works on the uric scale build-up. This means it works on both problems.

Q: How do I clean the floors and walls?
